CYCLING THE ICEFIELDS PARKWAY
DAY 3: Friday, August 16, 2002 REST DAY
During the night, it had rained in Banff, and the streets were wet in the morning. Low, fall-like heap clouds permeated the skies. In the higher levels, snow had fallen, and the mountains took on a new look. We used this day to see the sights of Banff, and do a little bit of shopping. We ended up touring the Banff Springs Hotel, then taking a taxi to the Sulphur Mountain Gondola about $7.00, including tip from the Banff Springs Hotel. We spent a few hours on top of the mountain admiring the sights down below us, and inspecting the snow that had fallen on the top of the mountain the previous night. This snow made some of the walkways treacherous, and some were even closed off for the day. By about 2:00 p.m. the skies started to break up, and we enjoyed bright sunshine for the remainder of the day.
